The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim invites you to another exciting Museum Night on May 16, 2026 (Saturday). This year, we will travel back in time by one hundred years and immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the interwar period.

Historic Bicycles and a Vintage Photo Studio

Our journey into the past will begin at 4:00 PM in front of the Museum building at Maksymiliana Kolbego 2A in Oświęcim. The event will open with an outdoor exhibition of historic bicycles and bicycle lamps (on display until 9:30 PM). Inside the Museum, visitors will be able to step into a vintage-style photography studio complete with period props and accessories (4:00–9:00 PM).

During the same hours, you will have the opportunity to meet a variety of characters from: a cotton candy vendor offering freshly spun treats, a shoeshiner ready to polish your shoes, a barrel organ player who will perform traditional tunes and explain how the instrument works. A newsboy dressed in period costume will distribute a special edition of the Museum Courier, including a children’s supplement titled The Little Museum Courier.

A Retro Corner for Children

The organizers have also prepared attractions for younger visitors. From 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, families are invited to visit a retro-themed activity area staffed by animators in historical costumes. Activities will include hoop-rolling races, vintage-themed coloring pages, traditional skill games, soap bubble activities, and a historic balance scale.

History Quizzes and Challenges

Throughout Museum Night (from 4:00 PM; last admission at 10:30 PM), visitors will be able to explore the Museum’s permanent exhibition. History enthusiasts of all ages will have the opportunity to test their knowledge and observation skills by completing quizzes included in the special Museum Night newspaper. As always, participants who provide correct answers will receive small prizes.

Outdoor Family Game on the Superheroes Trail

From 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Museum educators will lead an outdoor game on the Superheroes Trail, located in front of the Museum building. Teams will complete tasks placed throughout the trail, focusing on stories of local heroes and events from World War II in the Oświęcim region. Some activities will also relate to the interwar period.

Teams of up to five participants may register by phone at +48 33 447 40 84 or by email at edukacja@muzeumpamieci.pl. Registration deadline: May 14, 2026, at 3:00 PM.

Photographs Brought to Life

For lovers of historic photography and modern technology, the Museum has prepared screenings of a unique film titled Snapshots from the Lives of the Residents of the Land of Oświęcim During the Interwar Period. The photographs featured in the film come from the Museum’s collections and were donated by many generous contributors. Using artificial intelligence, the images have been colorized and animated, offering viewers a vivid glimpse into everyday life a century ago. The film will be screened every 30 minutes in the conference room from 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM.

The Magic Clown and the Grand Finale

From 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM, audiences will enjoy the Magic Clown show. The show will be followed by two hours of circus and magic-themed activities among the audience.

At 9:30 PM, the Museum invites visitors to the evening’s grand finale: Fashion of the 1930s, a light-and-sound performance. During this 45-minute presentation, fifteen costumed characters will appear on stage alongside selected historic bicycles and tourist equipment. The show will be accompanied by music, narration, and commentary providing historical context.

We warmly invite you to spend this special evening with us on May 16 at The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim, located at Maksymiliana Kolbego 2A in Oświęcim. Together with the Historic Bicycle Association of Zabrze, we will make sure this Museum Night is an unforgettable experience. Photo: Historic Bicycle Association of Zabrze / Press Materials
