On Tuesday, August 11, at 1:00 PM, The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim will host a meeting for representatives of regional memory chambers and museums from Western Małopolska, covering the counties of Oświęcim, Chrzanów, Olkusz, and Wadowice. Everyone interested is warmly invited to attend.
Preserved Heritage: Regional Memory Chambers” is a nationwide project run by the “Memory and Future” Center in Wrocław and funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Since last year, The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim has served as the project’s regional coordinator for Western Małopolska.
As representatives of the Center emphasize: “Memory chambers are grassroots initiatives, often run by enthusiasts and volunteers, where traces of the past are preserved: everyday objects, family memorabilia, photographs, documents, and oral histories. Each of these elements carries the story of specific individuals, social groups, and organizations (…) The project responds to the challenges faced by those involved in running memory chambers by offering professional support and joint initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting local heritage.”
Guests from Wrocław will attend Tuesday’s meeting. It will be an excellent opportunity to ask directly about opportunities for professional or material support for memory chambers, assistance in organizing local events using their collections, collection preservation and protection, and the development of educational projects. The meeting will also provide an opportunity for representatives of regional memory chambers and museums to get to know one another, establish contacts, and exchange experiences.
Last year, a representative of The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim conducted study visits to regional memory chambers and museums in Kęty, Zator, Chełmek, Trzebinia, Jawiszowice, Ryczów, and Bachowice.
