On 24th September 2020, participants of the project to develop the multimedia app published by the Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim Residents gathered in the Youth Art Basement of the Young People’s Cultural Centre in Oświęcim. Here nine students received awards for their active participation in the project.

The first version of the mobile app, which was based on Andrzej Strzelecki’s book “Topography of Remembrance. Memorial sites in the Land of Oświęcim of Auschwitz victims and resistance movement heroes in the years 1939-1945” came out in late 2019 and was made by local high school pupils. This year also, the young people worked hard in all the practical activities to increase the app’s functionality.

Deputy District Head, Paweł Kobielusz, who, along with Board Member Teresa Jankowska took part in the project conclusion, congratulated the participants:

“Today, when reading paper books has become a little less popular, it is good that there exists such a mobile app. You can pull out your smartphone, go and visit a couple of interesting places and discover more of the history of the Land of Oświęcim.”

Director of the Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim Residents, Dorota Mleczko, while recalling the project’s conclusion almost a year ago, said that the project had been intended to be a one-off.

She continued: “At the time we saw the excellent involvement on the part of the participants. And we heard the young people state their willingness to take part in another such project if there should be one. So that is why we began working on an extended and more varied version of the mobile app.”

Addressing the young people, she emphasised, “Today, we have the opportunity to see the fruit of your hard work.”

The project fell during the pandemic.

“All of the work was carried out 100% online,” explained Marcin Magiera, who, along with Marcin Dłubis, were responsible for the content of the project.

Project participants: Patryk Antecki, Julia Chmura, Jakub Gałuszka, Jakub Joniec, Mateusz Kania, Krystian Korbel, Kamil Rybarski, Dawid Spisak (all from District School No. 2 of General Education of Sport and Technical Championships in Oświęcim and Jan Bregin (from District Centre for Technical and Industrial Education in Oświęcim).
