The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim invites you to take part in the commemorations of the National Day of Remembrance of the “Cursed Soldiers”, which will take place on 1 March 2026 in Jawiszowice. The ceremony will conclude with an evening concert by the Representative Orchestra of the Polish Border Guard from Nowy Sącz, held at the Cultural Centre in Brzeszcze, co-organizer of the event.

The commemorations in the Brzeszcze municipality are being organized for the tenth time. This year, however, marks the first time that The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim serves as the main organizer. The event is an important part of the local tradition of commemorating the heroes of the anti-communist underground and fostering historical awareness among residents of the region.

The National Day of Remembrance of the “Cursed Soldiers” was established in 2011 as a tribute to members of the Polish independence underground who, after the end of World War II, refused to lay down their arms and continued to resist the communist regime imposed on Poland. They carried forward the legacy of the Home Army, remaining faithful to the ideal of a sovereign Polish state.

The date of 1 March holds symbolic significance. On that day in 1951, in Mokotów Prison in Warsaw, communist authorities executed the leaders of the 4th Main Board of the “Freedom and Independence” organization (WiN), headed by Łukasz Ciepliński. They represented the last leadership of the nationwide independence underground, continuing the work of the Home Army after 1945.

The event is held under the Honorary Patronage of Iwona Gibas, Member of the Board of the Małopolska Region.

We warmly invite you to join us in commemorating those who remained faithful to Poland and its independence until the very end.
