The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim and the “Memory and Future” Center in Wrocław signed three-party agreements on Wednesday with three regional memory chambers in Jawiszowice, Zator, and Chełmek. The agreements concern patronage and professional support for these institutions as part of the “Preserved Heritage: Regional Memory Chambers” program.
The Wrocław-based center runs the “Preserved Heritage: Regional Memory Chambers” program, funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, providing professional support to regional memory chambers. In October last year, the center signed a cooperation agreement with The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim. As a result, the Museum became the project coordinator for Western Małopolska.
The following institutions have joined the program: “Piykno Izba” in Jawiszowice, run by the Jawiszowice Rural Housewives’ Association; the “Regional Chamber of the Zator Land and the Carp Valley” in Zator, run by the Society of Friends of the Zator Land; and the “Bata Memorial House” in Chełmek, run by the Municipal Cultural, Sports and Recreation Center in Chełmek. Last year, study visits were held at all three locations to examine how the chambers operate and to assess the size and condition of their collections.
These are the first three institutions in Western Małopolska to receive professional support in inventorying, storing, preserving, and making their collections accessible. The support will also include assistance with acquiring equipment for inventorying collections, including a computer, scanner, and digital camera, as well as preparing descriptions and cataloging collection items.
A delegation from the Museum — Director Dorota Mleczko and Piotr Tarczyński, Promotion Specialist — accompanied by guests from Wrocław — project coordinator Marcin Musiał and Karol Machi, regional project coordinator for Lower Silesia — visited the chambers in Jawiszowice, Zator, and Chełmek, where the agreements were signed. The visits also provided an opportunity to discuss planned forms of cooperation and future initiatives
The day before, representatives of regional memory chambers from Western Małopolska met at the Museum. During the meeting, Marcin Musiał and Karol Machi presented the objectives of the “Preserved Heritage: Regional Memory Chambers” program and answered questions about the practical aspects of running such institutions and possible forms of cooperation within the program.
