This year, The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim Residents invites you to a special Night of Museums Under the Stars. The event begins on Saturday, May 17 at 17:00. Visitors who come to the museum at 2A Maksymiliana Kolbego Street in Oświęcim can look forward to great amount of astronomical attractions.
Telescopes and giant models of the Moon and Jupiter
– “In front of the entrance, there will be a station with telescopes for both daytime and nighttime observations. Attendants will get the possibility to learn how to use this equipment independently. For the youngest guests, we’ve prepared riddles, and the evening shows will be easy to watch because of reduced artificial lighting in the nearby area. Visitors will be able to compare the views offered by different types of telescopes and ask questions to the staff,” says Piotr Nawalkowski, president of the POLARIS-OPP Association.
During the event, large-scale pneumatic models of the Moon and Jupiter will be presented. After dusk, they will be impressively illuminated. The Jupiter model will also feature additional lighting effects imitating atmospheric storms. The exhibition will remain available to participants until the end of the event.
Photo in a Space Suit
Photography enthusiasts will be surely attracted to the Martian landscape station. Here, participants—dressed in NASA-style spacesuits—will be able to take photos against the background of a realistic panorama of Mars.
– “Under a spherical dome in the main hall, visitors will be able to see the current sky over Oświęcim, learn about constellations, and spectacular astronomical phenomena. Each session with live commentary from an astronomer will be concluded with a Q&A session. While waiting for their turn, guests can see real meteorites from Mars and the Moon,” encourages Piotr Nawalkowski, the president of the POLARIS-OPP Association.
Meteorite Hunting and Outdoor Field Game
A Martian zone with model-making workshops will be set up in the conference room, where participants will build paper models of Martian landers and gliders. Those attending the workshops will also have the chance to remotely control micro-rovers across a scaled version of Olympus Mons. The highlight of the entire zone will be a three-meter model of Mars, accompanied by its moons: Phobos and Deimos.
Outside, in a designated area, meteorite-hunting workshops will be held, during which the participants will be using metal detectors. Everyone entering the training field will learn how the detectors work and practice basic research methods with them.
All workshops start at 17:00 and last until 23:30 .
By calling 33 447 40 84, you can register teams (maximum five people) for a field game. The activity is scheduled from 17 to 19. Teams will solve tasks spread throughout the Path of Superheroes, located in front of the museum building. The tasks are inspired by the stories of people and events related to World War II in the Oświęcim region. Participants can also expect puzzles, crosswords, and other interactive tasks.
