This year’s Night of the Museums at the Remembrance Museum centres around the theme of photography as the art of preserving history in the frame – commemorating people, places and events. Participation in all events is free.
This is the third Night of the Museums at 2A Kolbego Street in Oświęcim. This year’s highlight will be a shadow theatre performance by the Figure Theatre (a touring puppet and shadows theatre) from Krakow depicting the story of the aid provided to Auschwitz prisoners by local residents. The performance will be presented three times on the façade of the museum building. The performances are scheduled for 9.30pm, 10.15pm and 11pm.
We look forward to welcoming you from 5pm on 18 May when the permanent exhibition will be open to the public. Test your knowledge in a quiz about the exhibition between 5pm and 6.30pm and have a chance to win attractive prizes.
Also at 5 p.m., in the museum’s library, Mirosław Miranowicz will begin a workshop on wet collodion photography, a very popular technique in the latter 19th century. The class will last approximately 4-5 hours.
An hour later, at 6 p.m., a Touring Photographic Workshop will open. For two hours, visitors will be able to take souvenir photographs using instant cameras.
The museum has also prepared a very extensive offer especially for children and young people. From 5pm to 6.30pm, a field game will be held outside the building (registration of teams of 2-6 people is required, limited number of places). For children aged 5-9, our educators have prepared a workshop entitled “In spite of it all, it’s worth helping” (registration required, limited number of places). At 9pm, prizes will be awarded to the winners of the “Secret Courier Wanda” competition.
Throughout the entire Night of the Museums, two temporary exhibitions will be open on the ground floor of the building. The first entitled “Faces of Aid” will present portraits of Oświęcim residents helping Auschwitz prisoners during the German occupation. The second will exhibit antique cameras.
Participation in all events lasting until midnight is free. Registration for the game and workshop tel: 33 447 40 84, e-mail: edukacja@muzeumpamieci.pl by 12pm on 17th May,
