The Remembrance Museum warmly invites you to a meeting with Michal Jarnot entitled “The history of the Dusik family from Łęk-Zasole” at 5.30pm on 27th April.
The Dusik family holds a special place among those involved in helping Auschwitz prisoners. In Łęki-Zasole, in the building with the Dusik’s restaurant and store during the occupation, there was a contact point where conspirators and former Auschwitz escapees would meet and hide. Thanks to Julian, his wife Katarzyna and daughter Wanda, food, medicine and secret messages were also delivered to the prisoners. Franciszek Dusik – son of Antoni, Julian’s brother – was also involved in underground activities.
The occupation history of the Dusik family includes such important figures active in the resistance movement as: Kazek Jędrzejowski a.k.a. “Maniek” (executed by the Germans in Birkenau Concentration Camp on 26.05.1944; he was under 20), Jan Wawrzyczek a.k.a. “Danuta” – commander of the “Sosienki” Home Army unit (survived the war, died on 30.09.2000) or Kostek Jagiello a.k.a. “Toothless” (killed in combat with the Germans on 27.10.1944; he was 28 years old).
Of the Dusiks, Julian paid the highest price for helping the prisoners. After being arrested, he was sent to Auschwitz Concentration Camp, then to Mauthausen Concentration Camp, where he died on 15th March 1945. The Germans also arrested Wanda (she was imprisoned in Mysłowice, later taken to Schörgenhub camp) and Franciszek (incarcerated in Auschwitz). Despite many interrogations and beatings, neither turned anyone in. Wanda and Franciszek survived the war.
Michał Jarnot will speak about the fate of the Dusik family during the meeting at the museum. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Silesia in Katowice. He works at the Bielsko-Biała branch of the State Archives in Katowice, and is also involved in popularizing history in publications and at meetings with history enthusiasts. The heroic Wanda Dusik (married name Kurdziel) is his grandmother.
The meeting with Michał Jarnot entitled “History of the Dusik family from Łęk-Zasole” starts at 5:30 pm Thursday 27th April in the conference room at the Remembrance Museum at 2A Maksymiliana Kolbego Street in Oświęcim.
Admission is free.
