[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]More than two months of work, 100 teaching hours of design and programming and twelve tenacious secondary school students  –  a celebratory conclusion of the mobile application based on the publication of Dr. Andrzej Strzelecki entitled “Topography of Remembrance” issued by the Museum was held in the hospitable Youth House of Culture. The app is now waiting to be published on the App Store and Google Play.

The summary of the creation of the app took place on December 3rd. It was attended by Deputy Head of Oświęcim District Council, Paweł  Kobielusz, full-time member of the District Board Teresa Jankowska, principals of schools run by the Oświęcim District, heads of departments of the District Council. Of course, the gathering would not have been complete without Andrzej Strzelecki, author of the publication Topography of Remembrance Memorial sites in the Land of Oświęcim of Auschwitz victims and resistance movement heroes in the years 1939-1945 and the students who participated in the project and worked steadfastly under the supervision of the project leaders responsible for content: Marcin Magiera and Marcin Dłubis. The programmers were assisted by Anita Bury from the Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents.

Guests were greeted by a vocal ensemble from the Youth House of Culture led by Janusz Majcherek composed of schoolgirls – Anna Walancik, Zuzanna Bratek and teachers – Kamila Sibik and Janusz Majcherek.

Dr. Andrzej Strzelecki also thanked the developers of the application and everyone who took part in its creation. He expressed hope that the application would “live” and be supplemented with new discoveries.

Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim Residents Dorota Mleczko pointed out that concluding the creation of the app does not mean the end of the project at all. “We have created a program that isn’t a one-off project, we’ll want to continue to develop it from the beginning of next year. And so, here, I invite the whole team, as well as all interested parties – your schoolmates – to participate in the project to which we will be introducing an interactive aspect.”

The idea behind the project was to interest young people in their local history with the use of modern technology. Thirteen students applied for work on the app (12 completed the project) from:  District School No. 2 of General Education of Sport and Technical Championships in Oświęcim: Jakub Gałuszka, Jakub Joniec, Mateusz Kania, Krystian Korbel, Dawid Spisak, Julia Chmura, Kamil Rybarski; from the District Centre for Technical and Industrial Education in Oświęcim: Krzysztof Diaczek, Andrzej Likus; from District  School No. 6  of Vocational and General Education in Brzeszcze: Dominika Mińkowska, Justyna Wilk; and from the Konarski High School of General Education in Oświęcim:  Adam Romański.

As app coordinators, we are impressed by the passion and commitment of the participants to the whole project. It should be emphasized that all the work was done outside classroom hours. Of course, their private time could have been used in a different way, any way, and yet they dedicated more than 100 hours to creating the app. During its creation, we went through the following stages: design, prototyping and programming. Thanks to this, students have gained a solid dose of knowledge, which they will certainly benefit from should they want to develop their skills in this direction”, emphasizes Marcin Magiera, coordinator.

After deliberations, the competition committee decided to present an award for exceptional commitment, amount of work, time spent, systematic work and ingenuity to a three-person team composed of: Julia Chmura, Jakub Gałuszka, Krystian Korbel from District School No. 2 in Oświęcim.

Students received an annual subscription to a training database and technical video courses regarding graphics and interfaces, photography, application and site programming, marketing and business. In addition, the committee also decided to reward a team of two people composed of Jakub Joniec and Mateusz Kania also from District School No. 2 in Oświęcim.  The awards were presented by the director of the Museum Dorota Mleczko and Deputy District Head Paweł Kobielusz.

In the second part of the event, Piotr Świąder-Kruszyński, leader of the group BESIDES from Brzeszcze, provided entertainment, presenting his single entitled “Ich bin wieder da” in multi-media form.
