Sound and light shows at the Night of the Museums

Noc Muzeów w Oświęcimiu 2023

Event partner:

This will be an exceptional Night of the Museums. On 20th May, four shows of spectacular sound and light shows will be held on the facade of the Remembrance Museum building with the area of two tennis courts. Using light animation and sound, the organisers will tell the story of the aid rendered by residents of the Land of Oświęcim to the prisoners of Auschwitz.

On Saturday 20th May, the doors of the museum will open wide to visitors at 5:00 p.m and the permanent exhibition, arranged on three levels, will be available free of charge until midnight to all who wish to visit. There you can learn about the history of the land of Oświęcim and how the inhabitants of this area helped the prisoners of Auschwitz – at the risk of their lives. Many of those who rendered aid were killed for their activities.

The exhibition, which opened a year ago, was prepared using the latest multimedia technology. Particularly noteworthy is a spherical screen with a dome more than 4.5 metres in diameter, and a steam screen with an unusual presentation of photographs of residents.

The Night of the Museums at the Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents is also an opportunity to see the original sculpture entitled “Asklepios” by world-renowned sculptor Igor Mitoraj, brought up in Grojec near Oświęcim.

Fans of riddles and quizzes are sure to reach for special leaflets to tackle the challenge titled “How well do you know the permanent exhibition?” A thorough tour of the permanent exhibition is required to solve the quiz. Museum goodies await those who correctly solve all the tasks.

Without a doubt, the most visually appealing highlight of this year’s Night of Museums will be the mapping show on the building’s huge facade.

Without a doubt, the most visually appealing highlight of this year’s Museum Night will be the four sound and light shows on the building’s facade. Unlike the projections a year ago, this time witnesses of history will take us on an amazing journey back in time. They will tell us what life was like in the Oświęcim area before the outbreak of World War II, how they remember the outbreak of war and the German occupation. They will recall the various ways in which local residents organised assistance to Auschwitz prisoners in the form of providing food, medicine, smuggling correspondence, and finally helping them escape. All stories are illustrated with striking animations and surround sound.
