The Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oświęcim Residents is active in the fields of popular science, education, publishing as well as in the organisation of exhibitions.

The most important event in 2022 was the completion and opening to the public of the permanent exhibition in the modernized building of the Remembrance Museum.

The first albums went to an Oświęcim collector

“A walk around Oświęcim. Photographs from the collection of Tadeusz Firczyk,” was published by the Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents. The author’s copies were ceremoniously handed over to Tadeusz Firczyk by museum director Dorota Mleczko.

We met the relatives of Władysław Jakubowski

Thanks to the help of family history enthusiasts and friends and supporters of the Museum of the Remembrance of the Residents of the Land of Oświęcim, we were able to reconstruct part of the life story of the craftsman from Brzeszcze.

Three attributes of greatness

From 13th April 2022, the District Complex No. 6 of Vocational and General Education Schools in Brzeszcze hosted an exhibition dedicated to the patron of the institution – Professor Kazimierz Bielenin. The exhibition was created as part of a project carried out by the Remembrance Museum, Oświęcim District and Oświęcim Municipality.

Permanent exhibition officially opened

Five years after the signing of a letter of intent by representatives of the Oświęcim district and the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the permanent exhibition at Remembrance Museum was officially opened to invited guests on 25th April 2022.

Museum open to all

1st May and a conference room full of guests, a meeting with history lover and photographer Tadeusz Firczyk and photo albums as a gift for all visitors to the permanent exhibition on the first day.

The doctor who loved history

The “Szklana” gallery of the Regional Cultural Center in Zator hosted an exhibition dedicated to Dr. Fryderyk Ružiczka. The exhibition was created as part of a project carried out by the Remembrance Museum, Oświęcim District and Oświęcim Municipality.

Crowds drawn to sound and light show

A thousand people came to the first-ever Museum Night at the Remembrance Museum. The greatest attraction was a multimedia show on the facade of the building which was received with a standing ovation.

How it was with Malec

Everyday objects, old paintings, photos and documents made up the exhibition at the fire station in Malec. It was prepared by the Youth Team at the Volunteer Fire Department. The exhibition was created as part of a project carried out by the Remembrance Museum, Oświęcim District and Oświęcim Municipality.

Walls do not remain silent

A visit to a former jail cell, a walk through the old part of town, an outdoor exhibition and a film screening – this was the historical presentation of the Municipal Center for Culture Sports and Recreation in Chelmek. The event took place as part of a project carried out by the Remembrance Museum, Oświęcim District and Oświęcim Municipality.

The story of one photograph

On the print, an unknown author immortalized six students sitting behind a school desk. Behind them on the board is the inscription: “Long live the 3rd grade clique.” The photograph was taken in 1946 in the building of the present St. Konarski High School in Oswiecim. The exhibition at the school entitled “The History of One Photograph” was created as part of a project carried out by the Remembrance, Oświęcim District and Oświęcim Municipality.

Kęty textile factories

“If I were to prepare this exhibition again, I would do it with even more engagement,” said Malgorzata Dziedziel-Gabryszak – teacher and author of the exhibition entitled “Kęty Textile Factories” which opened at the District Complex No. 10 of Mikołaj Kopernik Mechanical and Electrical Schools in Kęty as part of a project carried out by the Remembrance Museum, Oświęcim District and Oświęcim Municipality.

Very good turnout after museum opening

May was the first month of operation for the permanent exhibition at 2A Kolbego Street in Oświęcim during which two thousand people visited the museum. The Night of the Museums turned out to be a turnout success. The sound and light shows on the facade of the museum building attracted crowds.

Applause rang out after the film ended

On 7th June 2022, the premiere screening of the film “Courier Girl” co-financed by the Remembrance Museum took place in the auditorium of the Małopolska State University named after Rtm. Witold Pilecki in Oświęcim.

On the 82nd anniversary of the first transport of Poles to Auschwitz, a group of former prisoners and carers viewed the permanent exhibition.

The summary of the historical project entitled “Hearing forgotten voices – the fate of the inhabitants of the land of Oświęcim in the first half of the 20th century” at the Remembrance Museum was an opportunity to reminisce, share experiences and impressions.

More than 150 entries in less than three months have been left in the Reflection Zone by visitors to the Auschwitz Memorial Museum.

Distinction for the museum

The Remembrance Museum received a copy of the Christ of Auschwitz medallion. On the 99th anniversary of Zofia Posmysz’s birth, it was presented by former International Youth Meeting Center director Leszek Szuster to director Dorota Mleczko.

The ever-moving fate of children

Two substantive lectures and emotional recollections – tears flowed during the conference entitled “The Post-War Fate of Children from Auschwitz Concentration Camp” organized by the Remembrance Museum.

Unique tourist attraction votes opened

The beginning of September marked the beginning of online voting in the fourth edition of the competition for the best tourist offers and products of the Malopolska (Lesser Poland) County, entitled “Tourist Treasures of Malopolska.” The Remembrance Museum was among 41 candidates in the Unique Tourist Attraction category.

Six hours with cameras in hands

The Remembrance Museum organized a free workshop for anyone interested in taking photographs and photographic creativity. Twenty-six people honed their skills in the museum’s interiors.

Students learned about the power of humanity

Remembrance Museum eductors conducted the last workshop of the “We Remember” project at the elementary school in Przecieszyn. The primary goal of the project which began in 2020 is to identify the graves where people who helped prisoners of the former KL Auschwitz camp were buried. It also includes guided tours, meetings and workshops.

More than 120 people attended the promotion of the publication entitled “Monuments, memorials, commemorative plaques in the Brzeszcze Municipality,” organized at the fire station in Brzeszcze.

The great journey of ordinary people

A room full of guests at the Village House of Culture in Osiek confirmed that Andrzej Kacorzyk’s decision to write a book filled with family stories was the right one.

Award presentation with Santa and Elves

31 children took part in the third edition of the “Letter to Santa Claus” contest. This time it was dedicated to the dreams of our great-grandparents. Winners and participants received their prizes at the Remembrance Museum HQ who organised the competition.

Museum calendar for 2023

The fourth-ever calendar published by the Remembrance Museum contains profiles of 12 heroes associated with the land of Oświęcim.

For young and old alike

2022 was a very busy year for museum educators from the Remembrance Museum’s Education Department. Over the course of 12 months, they conducted 28 workshops attended by more than 560 people – from toddlers a few years old to seniors. Currently, the museum offers those interested 19 different workshops, 7 museum lesson topics and a field game called “On the Trail of Superheroes.”
